When Sheila McCann opened the first House of Bread Bakery Café in San Luis Obispo, California, in 1996, she had no idea that the passion for bread that her grandmother instilled in her at a young age would become her life’s vocation.
After serving 5 years in the Public Defenders office, she decided to leave her office and share her love of bread with the small California community. She was raised in the high mountainous, four seasons region of Montana where wheat grew best. And with meticulous planning, she arranged for the wheat to be shipped out west and drew upon her grandmothers’ recipes to open the doors of the first bakery café.
House of Bread Bakery Café has created a business model that provides owners strong margins and allows them to be an important part of the communities they serve. We are not your typical par-baked café or restaurant. All of our breads are baked from hand on site using wholesome ingredients and all-natural processes.
